Aerzeit knows one thing about you: an approximate grid cell (~3 km). That cell is used only to fetch your local forecast. It is never linked to your name, device, or account. No tracking, no analytics, no ads — ever.
What Aerzeit collects
Aerzeit collects exactly two values on its backend — both anonymized by design:
- H3 grid cell (~3 km resolution): Derived from your GPS position by snapping it to an H3 hexagonal grid cell at resolution 6. Your precise GPS coordinates are discarded on-device immediately and never transmitted. Any two users within the same ~3 km cell share the same key — it cannot be traced back to an individual.
- Last request timestamp: The time of your most recent forecast request for that cell. Used solely to decide when to prune stale cells from the database (30-day inactivity threshold).
What Aerzeit does NOT collect:
- Your precise GPS coordinates
- Your name, email address, or any account identifier
- Device ID, advertising identifier (IDFA), or any persistent device token
- Usage patterns, session data, analytics, or behavioral tracking
- Payment information — Apple handles all subscription payments via StoreKit; we never see your payment details
- Your temperature target, rain threshold, or notification schedule — these live only on your device and never leave it
Why we collect it
One purpose only: to fetch the 48-hour weather forecast for your grid cell from the Aerzeit backend. The grid cell is the minimum unit of data needed to answer the question "what is the weather near me?" — nothing more is collected because nothing more is needed.
How long we keep it
Backend (grid cell + last-request timestamp): automatically deleted 30 days after your last forecast request for that cell. If you stop using the app, your cell record disappears on its own.
On-device data (your settings, saved locations, notification history): stored in your app's private sandbox. Deleted when you uninstall Aerzeit.
Sub-processors
Aerzeit uses infrastructure providers. None of them receive data that identifies you:
- Cloudflare (network infrastructure): Hosts the Aerzeit backend. Cloudflare's network sees transient HTTP metadata (IP address) for rate-limiting; Aerzeit does not write IP addresses to its database. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Open-Meteo (weather data): Provides the raw forecast data. Aerzeit's backend fetches forecasts using only the grid cell coordinates — no user identity is transmitted. See Open-Meteo's terms.
- Apple / StoreKit (subscription payments): Processes all subscription payments directly. We never receive your payment details or billing information. See Apple's privacy policy.
